WHAT IS WHOIS
WHOIS contains information (known as “WHOIS data”) about domain name registrations and their owners.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) oversees the WHOIS service. It is not, however, a single, centrally operated database. WHOIS Data is maintained by independent organizations and registrars who are ICANN accredited.
A “record” typically includes details like the name and contact information of the domain registrants, the registration organization, nameservers associated with the domain, the creation and expiration dates of the domain, and other information relevant to the domain registration. It is accessible to the public, so anyone can perform a search to find out who owns a domain or website.
It’s important to note that some domain owners can pay a fee to keep their information private by opting for privacy protection services to hide their contact information. In such cases, the WHOIS database will show information about the privacy protection service instead of the actual domain owner.
USING WHOIS LOOKUP TOOL
Whois lookup is a tool to find information about domain names or IP addresses. Here’s how to use it:

Enter the domain name or IP address you want to look up in the search bar.

Click the “search” or “lookup” button.

The results will show details such as the registrar, owner, creation and expiration date, and contact information for the domain or IP.

You can perform a Whois lookup by going to a Whois lookup website such as Whois.net or Whois.com, entering the domain name or IP address you want to look up, and clicking the “search” or “lookup” button.

- My Products
- Manage All to get to the “My Domains” page.
- Check any/all boxes to the far left of the domains.
- After checking boxes, the toolbar options will become available.
- Then, click on Ownership and choose “Update Contacts”
This will update the contacts for the domains you checked.
